Fixed!

This is WORKING!  Fortunately my far far incalculably more cyber-savvy daughter, Lavinia,  was here for an overnight visit and she fixed the problem so I can get back to blogging!  It was Internet Explorer that was the problem, not blogspot.
If anyone has seen the movie The Internship with Owen Wilson, and Vince Vaughan, I felt like them - so far out of date with technical stuff.  My daughter explained how if your internet explorer isn't updated, sometimes it isn't up to the latest changes in a program from something you are using.  Or at least that was my translation of what she was explaining and it may be entirely wrong.  Nonetehless, tomorrow, I'll get back to blogging, for today, it is time to simply dry myself off as I was caught in the rain after dropping my daughter off for the bus to New York near the Cherry Hill Mall.

Whitall House- Upstairs Room Open for Yellow Fever and Midwifery

Unfortunately, Captain Dave's boat was all filled up on Friday, so we couldn't take the Maurice River Cruise and have lunch at Wildflowers, the Vegan restaurant in Millvill.

On Sunday, however, I did two hours as docent in the museum room of the Whitall House for the Flower Show, June 23rd.  The special "Field Days" are always on the third Sunday.  I enjoy bringing the river and land battle to life for people who have never heard of it before.  They are always interested and grateful.  I was asked about books on the battle:  There is Lee Anderson's book, Forty Minutes on the Delaware, and there is the Fight for the Delaware (which is rare and hard to find - I think I bought the last copy off the internet some years ago.)

The next special "Field Day" is about medicine and the theme will be Yellow Fever and Midwifery.  Yellow fever is our theme because it is the disease that killed Ann Whitall in the 1790's.  The main event will be the opeing for tours of the upstairs bedroom.  It's a FIRST that the upstairs rooms will be open.  They have been certified as safe for touring.  That Sunday is July 21st, I believe.  I'll be there, hope to see you!

Meanwhile, we haven't given up on our boat tour.  Let this be a lesson, call EARLY!  We called the day before.  The Maurice River boat cruise is pretty popular on hot summer days.  Fridays are senior citizen days too.

A fine day's outing on the Maurice

Tomorrow, two friends and I are going on a boating expedition down the Maurice River out of Millville.  If you were reading this blog last year, you may recall a posting about Captain Dave's Maurice River Cruises.  Her's a link

We plan to have lunch at Wildflowers Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant before the cruise.  So if you want o meet me in person and my friends, author Barbara Solem, and animal activist and volunteer Barbara Spector, we'll be at the restaurant at 11:30 and at the boat at 1:00.

It is senior citizen Friday on the Cruise, so the fee is $10 and the tour is about 2 hours from 1:00 to 3:00.  Bring your binoculars for great bird sightings - eagles guaranteed! 

Last year we took a sundown cruise and saw the migration of the purple martins.

With the National Heritage Area's Management Plan in place, it is time to move forward to proclaim the unique role that New Jersey played in our nation's founding with an amplified voice.  The Partner Program engages our Revolutionary War sites and other resources to make the connections that will magnify our stories and enhance community support. The Partner Program fosters working relationships between and among New Jersey's Revolutionary War sites and organizations to cross-pollinate our identity and strengthen individual site sustainability. What are the Partner Program benefits? Participating partners receive marketing, interpretive and other technical support; promotion of your site and events on Crossroads' website and other media; and access to Crossroads training opportunities and networking events.  Partners will also be eligible for Crossroads direct assistance programs, such as support for interpretive and wayfinding signage. Why should I attend a Partner Program meeting? This is the first step in our partner process.  We need to hear from you on what services and support will best serve you.  We will also be discussing potential designs for our signage initiative, which we will be taking statewide in 2014.  This will be a major effort to raise the visibility of New Jersey's American Revolution sites and resources.  Also, let us know what programs and events you have planned, so we can include them in our marketing efforts.
