Booty's Grave July 24th 2026

Yesterday, July 24th, my sister dug a grave for Booty in the backyard beneath a nice shady tree and near the graves of my other pet who died and weer buried here over the years: Whitey White, Cocoa, Honey, Little Yock, Dexter, Seamus and Padrai and Golly. There is a little memorial garden overgrown by Lilyof the Valley now. When my sister was digging, she came across two old bottles. She dug the dirt out of them and I soaked them and cleaned themwith an old toothbrush.

One bottle, the taller, thinner one with a slight green tinge is a Union Bottle Company, Ferry Ave., Camden NJ which operated from 1888 to 1891, so it is really old. The second one is Suburban Dairies, Oaklyn Avenue, Audubon, 1927 later merged with Abbotts Dairies in Philadelphia.

My grade school, D. N. Fel School on Oregaon Ave. took on us a field trip to Abbott's when I was a small child and I remember walking in the factory beside the conveyer belts with the metal racks full of clanking and clattering bottles being washed and sterlilized to be used again.

The finding of the bottles was a click that turned the dial of my mind away from the grief of losing my cat friend Booty, into the history channel. History somehow makes me aware of the present as infinitely precious and simultneiusly very fleeting and insignificant.

The bottles are standing in front of my Great grandmother's sewing machine from the same era.
